THE JACKAL'S TRIBUTE TO RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE

Wrestling historian and the voice of the Millennium Wrestling Federation The Jackal shares his thoughts on the late, great "Macho Man" Randy Savage:

Today, Friday, May 20th is a very sad day.  Word got to me shortly before noon that Randy Savage died in a car accident, which was caused by Savage having a heart attack.  I saw his WWF debut(outside of tv and yet to air) at MSG vs Rick McGraw.  Although a prelim bout, I was impressed with him and talked about him a lot that night in NYC, June 21st, 1985.  He would make his Boston debut the next night vs SD Jones.  Prior to these dates in June, I had heard about Randy Savage wrestling for ICW, owned by Angelo Poffo.  Back to my first live memories of Randy Savaage before 1985 would end, Savage wrestled Hulk Hogan at MSG for the WWF Championship.  They would wrestle almost everywhere where Hulk won the first battle by countout or dq.  If you got the second match Savage would win by countout setting up Lumberjack Matches.  They would have one in February 1986 and I made the trip to NYC again.  Prior to this return Lumberjack Match, Savage would beat Tito Santana for the Intercontinental Championship at the Boston Garden on February 8th, 1986.

Other highlights include losing the IC belt to Ricky "The Dragon" Stamboat in the greatest match possibly of all time at the Pontiac Silverdome.

Winning the WWF Championship at WrestleMania IV

Losing the WWF title to Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V

Becoming the Macho King

Battling Ric Flair over the WWF title and Elizabeth

Going to the broadcast booth

Jumping to WCW, and hundreds of things

Today the wrestling world mourns the loss of a supertalent, a great wrestler, a champion;  I always said randy savage was the greatest heel opponent for Hulk Hogan.

A note for Savage fans, you owe it to yourself to watch the Savage vs Steamboat match from Toronto after WrestleMania 3, this match with Steamboat was better.

Around 3pm today I learned WWE would have a feature on their tv shows.
